Natalia Frias-Staheli, Ph.D.
Natalia has a Ph.D. in Virology and 17 years of laboratory research experience in academic institutions and biotech. During her academic career, Natalia made crucial discoveries on the biology of the highly pathogenic Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus. She also conducted extensive research on dengue, influenza, polio, yellow fever, hepatitis C and Chikungunya viruses.
At ContraFect Corporation, Natalia worked on the development of monoclonal antibodies for influenza. She was the Principal Investigator of the bioanalytical IND-enabling studies, managed and monitored out-sourced GLP and non-GLP projects, and designed and executed in-house pre-clinical studies. At Sapience Therapeutics, she was part of the Pharmacology group working on a biological approach to treat Glioblastoma. Natalia has also held a position as faculty of the Citizen Science program at Bard College, was a reviewer for the Journal of Virology, and completed an Entrepreneurial Internship at Celdara Medical.
Natalia received an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the Pontifical Catholic University in Santiago, Chile, a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences-Microbiology from Mount Sinai School of Medicine and conducted postdoctoral training at The Rockefeller University. Her academic work resulted in multiple papers in virology and immunology, a patent, and a book chapter on Nairoviruses.
